Indiana’s richest Thoroughbred race, the Grade III $500,000 Indiana Derby, is set for Saturday, July

Indiana’s richest Thoroughbred race, the Grade III $500,000 Indiana Derby, is set for Saturday, July 14 at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino. Coming off a record-breaking year in 2017, the Indiana Derby showcases some of the best three-year-olds in the country and carries the tradition as A Royal Derby.

In addition to the Indiana Derby on July 14, the day will be highlighted by six stakes races and purses in excess of $1.1 million including the 23rd running of the Grade III $200,000 Indiana Oaks.

"Indiana Derby is the highlight of our season each year," said Kevin Greely, Indiana Grand's director of racing. "Our race has found a competitive summer spot since we moved it to mid-July in 2015. Each year, the nomination list for all of our stakes on Indiana Derby night represents some of the top names in the business, which is a true testament to the quality of racing we offer that evening."
