Shelby County Players nominated for multiple Encore awards


Shelby County Players, celebrating its 30th year of existence, recently received 24 nominations over 35 total categories for the 2018 Encore Awards Ceremony.

The Encore Association, a central Indiana association of community theatres, will conduct its awards ceremony at 7 p.m. on Oct. 29 at the Toby Theatre inside the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Ticket information is available at the association’s website (encoreassociation.com).

Shelby County Players’ nominations came from four productions at the Strand Theatre in downtown Shelbyville during the recently completed 2017-2018 season.

Nominated for “Boeing Boeing,” which was staged in September and October of 2017 were Carey Nigh (Best lead actor in a comedy), Rachel Scudder (Best lead actress in a comedy), Letitia Clemons (Best major supporting actress in a comedy), Nicole Bentley and J.T. Kent (Best performer under the age of 18 in a comedy), Tawni Morningstar (Best costumes for a comedy), and Lindy Meyer and Dennis Scudder (Best set design of a comedy).

Nominated for “House at Pooh Corner,” which ran in December of 2017 were Letitia Clemons (Best major supporting actress in a comedy), Alyssa Shouse (Best minor supporting actress in a drama), and Noell Krughoff (selected twice for Best set design of a comedy and Best set decoration of a comedy).

Honored for their performances and work on “Murder Inn,” from February and March of 2018 were Carey Nigh (Best major supporting actor in a comedy), Brad Burns (Best minor supporting actor in a comedy), Tiffany D. Wilson (Best set design of a comedy), Tiffany D. Wilson, Amber Hudson and Danyel Comstock (Best set decoration of a comedy), Greg Cox (selected for Best lighting design for a comedy and Best sound design for a comedy), and Nicole Bentley (selected twice for Best light board operator for a comedy and best sound board operator for a comedy).

Shelby County Players’ most recent production of “Radium Girls,” which ran in July and August, earned 15 nominations.

Selected were Ryan Gilpatrick (Best lead actor in a drama), Erin Fralick (Best lead actress in a drama), Nick Finch (Best major supporting actor in a drama), Nicole Bentley and Chris Cox (Best major supporting actress in a drama), Kara Hartman (Best minor supporting actress in a drama), Riley Burton (Best performer under the age of 18 in a drama), Sheila Fullerton (Best costumes for a drama), Carey Nigh and Greg Cox (Best set design of a drama), Carey Nigh, Karen Markle and Emma Hill (Best set decoration of a drama), Letitia Clemons (Best props for a drama), Greg Cox (four selections for Best lighting design for a drama, Best light board operator for a drama, Best sound design for a drama and Best sound board operator for a drama), and Cassandra Mummert (Best hair and makeup for a drama).

The Encore Association was established in 1970 and is comprised of non-professional, all-volunteer theatre groups in the Indianapolis and surrounding areas. There are currently 11 theatre groups in Encore, including Shelby County Players.

The association is governed by a board of directors comprised of representatives of each participating theatre. The board of directors host an annual awards ceremony each fall recognizing excellence from the previous theatrical season. These awards are decided by a committee of judges who view the productions, select nominees, and then announce the winners at the annual ceremony.
